I am an American who follows the U’s from Seattle where I live with my wife. We have season tickets but generally see only two games per year at The Abbey. However, I rarely miss a match on the streaming service, rising early every Saturday to see kickoff at 7am.
My introduction to the club came in 2002 after a trip to Cambridge. That wasn’t a very good season, but I was hooked and haven’t looked back. As internet technologies have improved so has my ability to follow the club from afar: initially tracking results online, then following live text updates, eventually listening to match commentary via the BBC’s website, and in recent years watching games with iFollow / CUTV.
The first match I saw in person was the FA Trophy Final vs Gosport Borough in March of 2014. I dropped everything to fly to London since it was a ‘once in a lifetime’ chance to see the club play at Wembley. Then two months later I did it all again to attend another ‘once in a lifetime’ game at Wembley for the Promotion Final vs Gateshead.
My first away trip was a goalless draw at Mansfield in October of 2014; my first match at The Abbey was a loss to Cheltenham a few days later on a cold Tuesday evening.
The most enjoyable game I’ve seen in person, however, was the win vs Peterboro in 2023.

My name is Jeffrey Roy and I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I became a U’s fan not long after football matches from the UK began broadcasting in Canada in 1984 on the new sports television channel called The Sports Network. As for a best game seen, any match that either confirmed promotion to a higher league or saved the club from relegation. As for a worst game seen, several as in the current season, which seemingly condemns the club to relegation. I do not get to see full matches as I would have to pay for a subscription service to do so.
