Fan Led Review Day of Action 15th November

Many CFU members have written to their local MP to ask them to suport the Fan Led Review. If you haven’t, details on how to find your MP are in the link below.

The Fan-led Review of Football Governance would put football supporters at the heart of the game, ensure our clubs receive the protection they deserve, and block greedy owners from entering a breakaway European Super League.

Football has had loads of chances to self-regulate and hasn’t taken them. The Government promised a Fan-led Review and now it’s got to deliver on the report’s recommendations.

But what does the Fan-led Review propose?

  • Regulation: an independent regulator for football (IREF) can prevent the recurrence of such developments as the proposed European Super League.
  • Finance: football’s model is unsustainable with too many clubs making losses. Pre-emptive action is needed and a regulator will impose stronger financial controls.
  • Engagement: proposals to embed democratic supporter organisations and engagement within the heart of domestic football.
  • Heritage: football stadiums, club badges, location, colours and competitions all deserve special protections. Fans to have a veto on these assets at every club via a “golden share”.
  • Reform: half of the FA Board should be made up of independent non-executive directors, to reduce elite club influence.
  • Distribution: the removal of restrictions on FA spending meaning more money redirected towards grassroots, non-league and women’s football.
  • Equality: equality, diversity and inclusion plans should be mandatory for all clubs.
  • Women’s game: a new review has been set up to specifically explore the challenges facing the women’s game. Supporters have to be involved in that process.

ACTION!

The Football Supporters’ Association is encouraging a day of action around this on Tuesday 15th November to coincide with an event they have in Parliament.

Fans across the country can do their bit to make sure that the Government acts by writing to their MP and/or lobbying them (politely!) on social media.

Let them know which club you support and why you back the Fan-led Review – “To stop a future European Super League”, “To protect my club’s stadium and heritage”, “To protect my club’s future”, “To give fans a voice in football”, etc.
