On Friday afternoon I was contacted and told of the death of Cambridge United supporter Roy Newman.
Roy was more than just a supporter: he was the face and creator of the Abbey Helpers on match days; he was the man who gave out sweets and welcomed supporters to every match. Personally, I will miss his positive nature and upbeat personality. I will miss the opinions, views and advice which he gave me.
Most of all, the Abbey Stadium and the supporters who attend match days will miss him. He was a man who helped everyone improve their match day experience and never asked for anything in return. He just wanted to see everyone enjoying their day at the Abbey with smiles on their faces.
Roy, it was good to know you. Thank you for being a friend and a supporter of Cambridge United.
