One of the most common questions we are asked is can supporter owned clubs compete on the pitch? It’s fair to say the economics of professional football still favor owners willing to lose money and take risks, and for some there is a perception that choosing supporter ownership is a choice for sustainability not success. But that doesn’t tell the full story. It’s typical for SD and the supporter owned clubs in our network to reflect on a season where there are as many highs as lows. Those supporter owned clubs that do suffer from a bad season on the pitch, tend to be more resilient than privately owned clubs that have suffered the same fate.
