When each day starts at the Abbey the days tasks are planned out, however, sometimes as the day goes by events overtake what is planned. This morning we planned to empty the gully pots around the ground. A simple task taking no more than an hour to do and one done quarterly to help with the drainage of the pitch and around the ground. Today, was different when we found out the drainage pipes in the Habbin Stand had become blocked and needed clearing. The pipes were clogged up with sand, soil and lots of debris. The network of pipes around the ground are a constant source of problems. We have eliminated much of the sewage problems during the past few years with the removal of paper towels however during the Carlisle match there were problems during the game that needed clearing urgently. This was not possible, but highlighted the problems that exist daily. They were done on the Monday morning by a specialist company Did you know that at 7.30am on the morning of the Carlisle match the pitch was waterlooged in some areas and that it needed forking by volunteers, Mick and Ian for most ot the morning following heavy rain We were also able to help rescue the frog and return it to the stream behind the Abbey | See below the videos of the work being done Next time you go along the back of the Abbey see if you can spot where the pipes leave the ground |
