In 2010 CFU undertook alongside Legends Publishing and the National Literacy Trust the publication of Cambridge 'Til I Die book.

Doug Shulman and Kevin Robson were co-ordinators of the project that was designed to bring together the stories of the supporters in print and in their own words

We have found a small quantity of the books and put them back on sale to remember the tenth anniversary of the books original launch

At the time of the launch Doug Shulman, commented: “Cambridge Fans United would like to thank all fans for the wonderful array of stories that have been forwarded. Not only were we splitting at the sides with fans’ contributions, but these stories have provided us with a wonderful, eclectic and often heart-warming mix of tales about fans’ experiences following the U’s. The final, full-colour version of the book is one of very high quality, and we are confident that those who purchase the book will not be disappointed"

A new report produced by the FSF, and supported by the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA), encourages local authorities and supporters to work together on spectator safety.

The Engaging with Supporters report encourages football fans to get involved with their local Safety Advisory Group (SAG) - the committee of local authorities that decide on many matchday safey issues. Additionally, the report urges local authorities to engage with fans and allow fan representation on local SAGs.

FSF chief executive Kevin Miles said: "We welcome the SGSA lending its support to this report. It's incredibly important that the views of football supporters are built into the decision making process on matchday safety and security.

Why is the Saturday 3pm kick-off sacrosanct? It's a rubbish time for football Guardian Article and Neil Atkinson from Set Pieces

Why is the Saturday 3pm kick-off sacrosanct? It's a rubbish time for football

he gilded impression of the Saturday 3pm kick-off is absolute nonsense and so is everything that goes with it. The handwringing, the notion that something about football is lost if a game doesn’t kick off at 3pm on a Saturday, and the idea that it means something deeper and more significant. Saturday 3pm is sacrosanct, enshrined in law to protect the noble game and the noble time from the ignoble broadcast.

Well, I hate Saturday 3pm. I absolutely hate it. It is rubbish. Saturday 3pm is the worst time, of the currently available times, to watch football at Anfield, with the possible exception of Sunday 12pm, which is horrific.

Saturday 3pm is nothing; it allows you to neither stick nor twist. A laid-back post-match interlude knocks your Saturday night off course. It’s now 7pm, you’re five post-match pints to the good and whatever you were doing that night now seems a long way off. Saturday 12.45pm is incredible. Go hard and heavy from 11am or ease into the ground terrifyingly sober, but that afternoon opens up. So much room, so many choices.

Saturday 5.30pm: wowzer. Town. Match. Town. Dancing. I doff my cap to the half five. I quietly reckon half six might be better again, give you more afternoon to play with, but whatever.

Supporter Mike Barnes gives his thoughts on the U's

The up-and-down fortunes of life as a Cambridge United fan took another twist at the weekend as Shaun Derry's men turned in a disappointing display in a 2-0 defeat at Stevenage.

Visits to Broadhall Way over the years – no free advertising or dubious stadium names here – have more often than not been a less than enthralling experience for U's followers and Saturday continued the trend.

At the same juncture last season the U's sat in 14th place with 11 points.

Assuming our current form continues we will complete the season on 66 points, which according to last seasons final table would place us 9th.  Achieving 4 points from our next 2 games will improve this forecast to 71 points, which according to last seasons table would place us 7th (the final Play Off place).

The U's have played 1 game against a team that currently place in the top 10.  This result was a 1-1 draw at home to Leyton Orient.  Over the next 2 weeks we are due to play 2 further teams in the top 10, against Portsmouth (home) and Wycombe (away).  See the full fixture list for the U's here.  This page also includes attendance and scorer information as well as who you have voted Man of the Match.

Pre-season problems are still hurting Cambridge United, says Richard Money

Picture
Fresh injuries to Ryan Donaldson and Barry Corr highlight the issue of having to throw players lacking full fitness into the Cambridge United line-up, according to Richard Money.

Donaldson picked up an ankle injury in the recent 3-1 home defeat to Luton, with the United manager believing the wide man's lack of a pre-season, because of a calf problem, had played a part in his latest knock.

He also felt Corr (pictured below) pulling up with a tight thigh in the warm-up prior to Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to Leyton Orient came as a result of the striker being unable to do much training after getting over a recent ankle injury.

Cambridge United v Luton Town - Richard Money wants supporters to get the Abbey rocking

Richard wants Cambridge United supporters to create another "incredible" atmosphere and be the team's 12th man when they renew their rivalry with Luton tomorrow.

The manager is urging the Abbey faithful to recreate the raucous noise that helped the U's see off the Hatters in last season's FA Cup third round for tomorrow's mouth-watering Sky Bet League Two clash.

"These are the games that the calendar is all about," said Money. "When the fixtures first come out, everyone's looking at fixtures like this, and others of course, as to when they fit into the calendar.

Leon Legge tells his incredible footballing story

Picture
Leon Legge tells his incredible footballing story

If you missed Leon Legge’s feature article in the official Match Day Programme on Saturday, don’t worry you can read it right here on Cambridge-United.co.uk now.

The former Brentford and Gillingham man reveals the story behind his fight with epilepsy as a young teenager desperate to make it in professional football, and the work he now undertakes to raise awareness for the condition.

Check out the story below:

Legge’s journey in professional football began at a later stage than most, with the central defender not making his Football League debut until the ripe age of 24 for Brentford in 2009, a world apart from the likes of team mates Luke Berry and Josh Coulson who made their first team debuts at 17 and 18-years old respectively.

His early development took a major blow when he discovered that he suffered from epilepsy following an incident at the age of 16-years old

Listen to Richard Money after the Crawley Match

Crawley came with a game plan, executed it and did a job on United at the Abbey on Saturday. A week of mixed fortunes for the U's.

Listen to Richard Money's reaction here to the match

Cambridge United suffered their first Sky Bet League Two defeat of the season at home to Crawley.

U's manager Richard Money made changes to his starting line-up once more, with six alterations to the team that started last Tuesday's 2-1 win at AFC Wimbledon.

Barry Corr, who picked up an injury near the end of that match, was ruled out and Josh Coulson was also not involved, while Greg Taylor, Jordan Slew, Robbie Simpson and Liam Hughes dropped to the bench.

Coming in were Elliot Omozusi, Harrison Dunk, Conor Newton, Luke Berry, Keith Keane and new loan signing Jacob Blyth, who arrived from Leicester yesterday.

Cambridge United Women team can learn in the future
Picture
Steve Edwards believes Cambridge United Women can eradicate the errors that cost them in their opening FA Women's Premier League, South East Division One match at Norwich City.

The manager saw his side, who were playing their first competitive match since becoming part of the United set-up, lose 3-1.

"There had been such a big build-up to the first game since the announcement of the merger, and maybe that affected us in terms of not being relaxed enough to play our game," said Edwards.

Richard Money want to keep in touch with the big boys

Picture
Richard Money hopes Cambridge United can keep pace with the biggest clubs in Sky Bet League Two following their winning start to the campaign.

United enjoyed a 3-0 success at home to Newport County in their opening game last Saturday – a result that put them top of the fledgling table alphabetically ahead of Portsmouth and Wycombe, who claimed wins by the same scoreline against Dagenham & Redbridge and York respectively.

Elliot Omozusi aims to go on the offensive for Cambridge United

Elliot Omozusi is keen to show off his attacking prowess in a Cambridge United shirt as well as his defensive qualities.

The former Leyton Orient full-back is confident he can produce the goods in an offensive wing-back role if required when United play a three-man defensive line.

He slotted into such a position for the first hour of his competitive United debut in Tuesday's 1-0 defeat at Rotherham in the Capital One Cup before switching to right-back when they went to a back four.

Cambridge United loanee George Taft cuts his long hair for charity

It really was a case of hair today, gone tomorrow when George Taft made his competitive Cambridge United debut in Tuesday's 1-0 defeat at Rotherham.

Taft recently arrived on a six-month loan from Burton Albion with a fulsome head of locks tied into a ponytail for his first outing in the Chris Turner memorial friendly at Peterborough United.

But the blonde tresses were replaced by a close crop for the Capital One Cup tie – not that they will be going to waste.

Rotherham tomorrow - Keith Keane speaking ahead of match. What do you think Richard Money will do?

Picture

Cambridge United travel to Rotherham on the 11th August in Capital One Trophy.

Rotherham started their season in an opposite manner to United losing 4-1 at home against MK Dons. Steve Evans was bemoaning the defensive performance of his side. See below for the highlights of the Rotherham/MK Dons match.

It will be hard to know if this was a one off or the sign of their season ahead. Will it allow a in-form United to sieze on their uncertancies and exploit their poor opening match?

Richard Money will need need to decide if he will stay unchanged from Saturday or make changes to ensure everyone is given match time while others get a rest.

What do you think he will do? Twist or stick.

Simon Dobbin attack: 'Fantastic change' in Cambridge fan, says wife

A football fan who ended up in a coma after being beaten has begun to laugh and move his limbs, his wife has said.

Cambridge United supporter Simon Dobbin, from Mildenhall, Suffolk, was attacked in Southend, Essex, in March after a game at the Roots Hall stadium.

Last month the 42-year-old was moved to a rehabilitation centre in Norwich, where he has undergone a "fantastic change", Nicole Dobbin said.

But how much he will recover is still uncertain, she added.

Football League… Not Tonight, Thanks
Read the blog From  Two Hundred Percent

Picture
In an age during which the overwhelming majority of media output sparkles with a glittery polish unseen in previous years, it’s almost comforting to see a show trip over its shoelaces, falls flat to the ground with its face slapping into a custard pie, stand up again, slip on a banana skin, and staggering around before stepping on a ladder which cracks into its face. To that extent, Channel Five’s venture into the world of football highlights was a success. However, when the only people that are satisfied with an hour and a half of their lives that they won’t be getting back seem to have been aficionados of schadenfreude, then it’s reasonably safe to say that things probably haven’t gone too well, overall.

When taking over a high-profile franchise, there is always a temptation to impose your identity upon a product that doesn’t require further bells or whistles. The BBC’s Football League Show was just about as demure as a football highlights programme as could be realistically possible, these days. Its late broadcast time and what many felt to be an over-emphasis on the Championship were criticisms that were never fully addressed, but at least the BBC seemed to understand that football supporters who will watch the Football League probably want to watch the football. Whether deliberate or subconsciously, the BBC seemed to understand that, at its most basic fundamental level, the Football League is mundane. The life of the Football League club supporter is mundane. We watch the football. We crack unfunny jokes. We grumble. And that’s okay. We need neither bells nor whistles. In its own way, The Football League Show spoke for us.

Richard Money calls for full Cambridge United focus ahead of Newport County test

Picture

Richard Money has called for full focus as Cambridge United attempt to make the ideal start to the new Sky Bet League Two season against Newport County tomorrow.

The U's kick off against the Welsh side at the Abbey and will be aiming to replicate the feel-good factor achieved with opening-day wins over Halifax and Plymouth in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

And manager Money wants his men to make sure playing in front of their home supporters at the start of the 46-match campaign proves to be an advantage come the final whistle.

"There's no doubt being at home on the first day of the season is an important factor, but you have to make the most of that because if you come off the pitch with the wrong result then it's a real disappointment," said Money.
