Cambridge United back #hungerdoesntwearclubcolours
Cambridge Utd will support Cambridge city foodbank in working together to help local people who are in hardship this winter. The football club will have a foodbank available on match day’s for fans to donate items of food which can then be shared in the wider local community.
Although Cambridge is a City of innovation and wealth, costs are high and there are thousands of people in hardship, sometimes having to choose between food and heat. The fans and supporters of Cambridge United Football Club understand the importance of teamwork and supporting each other & the Club’s Supporters federation Officer, Dave Matthew-Jones said.
"we are really proud to be associated with Cambridge City Foodbank. This is a time of year where, for many, the pressures of trying to provide for themselves and their families can prove really difficult. We would encourage everyone who can help to do so. Even a small amount can mean a lot and make a difference”.
The idea of a foodbank on a match day has proved successful at football league grounds all over the country with many clubs creating one for their local community. Noticeably the #hungerdoesntwearcolours campaign was created on Merseyside with both Everton & Liverpool coming together to create something worthwhile for their communities.
Fans can make donations to the Cambridge Utd foodbank on a match day, by bringing their donations to the club shop or CFU outlet. Some of the items which Cambridge City food bank suggest, can be donated are as follows.
- Tins of Fruit, meat, vegetables & Soup
- dried rice, pasta, mash
- cereal
- tea, coffee, UHT Milk
-fruit juices,
-jams, marmalade’s & healthy snacks.
- Basic Toiletries
Our request would be that all goods are in date, undamaged and non-perishable
We’re hoping it’s a success here at the abbey & working with Cambridge city foodbank will ensure that the food is given to those with most need within Cambridge
