What’s it meant to be? A stylised pineapple? A football with ramparts? Where’s the motto? Where, for flip’s sake, is the flippin’ motto?
I heard on the grapevine, when I dropped into the Supporters’ Club for a bingo night shandy, that there are moves afoot to bring back the classic United badge of yesteryear, featuring the Cambridge coat of arms in all its glory and the ‘United in Endeavour’ watchword by which we all abide.
Now that’s what I call a badge. Its return can’t come a moment too soon.
We’ve had some rum old crests in our time. Remember the bizarre creation that seemed to depict a football reading a book? It didn’t last long, and thank heavens for that. At a time when we need, perhaps more than ever, to be united in endeavour, we need a crest that we can be proud of, a crest that reflects unity of purpose and deed. Bring it back
