I have supported Cambridge United since 1970 during which time I have seen some great times and also some low ones. One thing I have never done is stopped believing in the club and my love of the Abbey Stadium.

I was originally a member of the CUSA (Cambridge United Supporters Association) and a founder member of Cambridge Fans United in 2000.  CFU was part of the Supporters Direct movement. I was Chair for much of that time until 2016

It was one of the proudest moments of my life when I became a director of Cambridge United. It was even better to be elected as FED.

I have since been given the role of Supporters Liaison Officer - see the definition provided by the FSF by clicking here

I also given the task of helping Ian Darler and Mick Brown to maintain the Abbey Stadium and prepare it before and after matches. We have built a team of volunteers with a wide range of skills and knowledge to carry out this work.  We plan, source the materials and carry out the work at the lowest cost we can. The work carried out is ensuring that the Abbey Stadium can still be used as a stadium while discussions take place concerning the re-development

The ELF will carry out one mystery shopper trip to determine the experience for away fans and two for home supporters. We have gained the Family Excellence award during that time.

I can be found on match days around the ground or can be contacted by phone mobile 07703 274034.

There are measures being taken to improve the communications between fans and club see the Fans Parliament Scoping work plan here

Some Comment from Our FED - How the Board works

The Board meets for a regular monthly meeting usually on the last Friday of the month.  However, during any month, additional meetings can be held if required. These can be in person or via conference calls: this ensures everyone is able to participate even if away from Cambridge or something needs to be discussed at short notice. Discussions take place on match days and during the week, either via telephone calls between individuals or Directors’ meeting to deal with specific items or roles. There is also an email group so with these options the whole group can be in contact. There is a fairly frequent flow of e-mails on various topics as the Board or the management team keep everyone informed of what is going on.

The monthly meeting has a formal agenda that will be sent out in advance with reports and materials to read and each meeting will have minutes to record the discussion and decisions. Informal meetings do not always have an agenda but the topic to be discussed will be known. If the topic is important a note of the discussion will be prepared and circulated.

The monthly meeting will usually consist of a discussion about the Club’s finances, the playing side, business performance, the Community Trust, ground development and normally a separate issue, for example safeguarding or safety issues. There is a standing safeguarding and safety report prepared for every Board meeting, given the importance of these topics. There may also be a guest invited to provide a greater depth of knowledge on a subject.  Since Duncan Foyle came onto the Board a lot more of the discussion-focus has concerned the finances. We are now receiving more data and information than previously and are also being provided with updates during the month.

Graham Daniels speaks to Paul Barry concerning player matters. Shaun Grady does so concerning the business side. The discussions are always very open and collaborative and most matters are treated as confidential unless agreed by the Board to allow disclosure. There is no desire to keep things secret from people, just that many matters need to be kept confidential to enable the Club to function.   Graham and Shaun deal with the media and are the Board's main spokes-persons. With Godric Smith coming on board and using his substantial communications experience and knowledge, there is a review taking place concerning the communications around the club and how we can improve fan engagement and communications generally

I am sure not everything will work perfectly all the time but there is a real desire to do better.   I cannot speak on behalf of the Board of Directors unless it is going to be on supporter issues. What I will do is take the opinions, views and issues to the Board for discussion
