Proximity is still the main factor in becoming a fan - almost 70% say they got into supporting their team because it was their local team.
Picture
37% attending fewer games than previous seasons with prices & work/family commitments being main reasons:
Almost 8,500 fans took part in our National Supporters’ Survey – last held in 2012 – to give their thoughts on the state of football ahead of the new season.

  • Two-thirds of fans think top-flight clubs are focusing too much on their global brand
  • Only one-third feels their club cares about them and their views

Almost 80% said they would be happy taking a young family to a match and more than half (55%) would like to see more family zones, fanzones and activities outside stadiums.

More data will be released on Friday 4th August 2017 via the FSF’s Fan Mail ebulletin.

Fan representatives from the EFL's three divisions met with EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey.

The meeting took place under the auspices of the Football Supporters' Federation and Supporters Direct, and was the second meeting between fan organisations and the EFL following the Government's Expert Working Group (EWG) on Fan Engagement and Supporter Ownership. There is a commitment from both fan groups and the EFL to bi-annual meetings.

This meeting was attended by three fans from different clubs for each division, drawn from the FSF's network of democratically affiliated/associated fan groups, fanzines and activists.
