Dreams of a footballer

One of Cambridge United’s most popular players returned to the Abbey on Saturday, August 6 to tell of the challenges he faced in football and those he is dealing with now.

Tom Youngs, who joined the U’s as a ten-year-old in 1989 and appeared 180 times for the first team between 1997 and 2003, launched his book What Dreams Are (Not Quite) Made Of at a 100 Years of Coconuts Q&A session after the home game against Barnet.

Tom told a packed audience about his multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2014, and gave an insight into what the future might hold for him. By way of contrast, he delighted his listeners with tales of his career at United, picking out some of his highlights and favourite teammates.

It's here! The new EFL season has arrived, so prepare yourselves for 10 months of football that promises to be exhilarating from the word go.Fulham and Newcastle United get things under way in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Friday night before Saturday's 3pm kick-offs in all three divisions. Sunday sees more live action, with two more matches from the Sky Bet Championship being screened on Sky Sports.

One of the opening weekend's stand-out fixtures sees Burton Albion, newly-promoted to the second tier, visit the City Ground to play Nottingham Forest – and that's where EFL Chief Executive Shaun Harvey will be.

“If any one game highlights what’s brilliant about the Championship, it’s this,” Harvey told EFL.com.

Join CFU this season and you could benefit from having first option to purchase tickets for all-ticket matches.

As a CFU member you will now have the same opportunity as season ticket holders to obtain your tickets in advance of them going on general release.

There will be a cut off date for CFU memberships, to protect members from late requests in future, so now is the best time to join CFU and take advantage of the scheme.

If you work on Saturdays or cannot come to all the matches and don't have a season ticket, you will still have the chance of seeing all the big games this season.

It costs twenty pounds to join either on line @ Cambridge Fans United or at the CFU 'van on match days.

There will further membership offers released during the next month, so keep a look out.

The new season is here, and so is the chance to represent your club, whilst taking home a cash prize on match-day. The Mick George ‘Skip Challenge’ has evolved, now incorporating additional elements and increased opportunity to win.
Participants in the NEW 'Skip Challenge' for the 2016/17 season no longer get only one chance, nor are they only playing for themselves. This time around, Home fans will compete against Away fans, taking it in turns to kick from multiple kicking points, trying to land it in the Skip.
