Cambridge Fans United - Abbey Helpers

Abbey Helpers ready to welcome fans to the football league
Abbey Helpers ready to welcome fans to the football league

Purple will once again be a welcoming colour at the Abbey Stadium this season, as the Abbey Helpers in their distinctive “HERE TO HELP” purple tops greet and assist fans arriving for Cambridge United matches.

Inspired by the London 2012 Games Makers, the Abbey Helpers are a team of enthusiastic and happy volunteers who are the first point of contact with fans as they arrive at the ground. During the unforgettable last few seasons they have helped create a warm and friendly atmosphere for all spectators, changing and enhancing the spectator experience on match days.

The Abbey helper scheme is a joint venture between Cambridge United and Cambridge Fans United. Cambridge United is continuously looking at ways to raise the bar on how well spectators are treated at the Abbey Stadium, whether they are attending their first match or if they are lifetime fans and season ticket holders. Cambridge United believe that it is important to make all supporters feel valued and looked after. By doing this it is hoped that the club will have the opportunity to welcome them back"many times in the future.

The Abbey Helpers volunteers proved to be a great success last season, valued by the club, loved by the fans and forging a valuable team with the fabulous Cambridge United stewards.

It is the interaction with fans that makes being an Abbey Helper really rewarding and enjoyable.

The success of the Abbey Helper scheme and with Cambridge United building for the future, more volunteers are currently being recruited. Abbey Helpers do not have to be football fans, they might be just interested in local volunteering or looking to gain customer service work experience. More information on volunteering as an Abbey Helper is available by contacting: cufcmatchmaker@btopenworld.com

Abbey Helpers Need Your Sweets

The Abbey Helpers need your Sweets.  Even just one tub!

To new and occasional fans we are the volunteers in the purple “Here to Help” T-Shirts who welcome and assist them as they arrive at the ground, helping create a warm and friendly atmosphere for everyone. To many of you we are the “people with the sweets”.

You may or may not be aware that the sweets are funded out of the Abbey Helpers own pockets. We are therefore looking for sponsors to help us to continue with this popular service. We are not after your money, but your tubs of sweets.

You may be able to provide us with just one tub or maybe more. In return each sponsored tub will be labelled with your name/organisation. We know that sweet sponsors will be very popular with the United fans and it might be a low cost/fun way of advertising your business. Some shops are currently offering these tubs of sweets at promotional discounted prices.

Please contact us if you would like to support us with some sweets or if you would like any further information: cufcmatchmaker@btopenworld.com

Next time you are in your local supermarket and you see those stacks of sweet tubs think about the Abbey Helpers.

These kind donations have secured the continuation of the match day distribution of sweets, by the Abbey Helpers, for at least well into the New Year. However donations of tubs sweets can still be made at the CFU caravan or by contacting us at cufcmatchmaker@btopenworld.com

With all these sweets being handed out please can we ask fans to be responsible and put their sweet wrappers in the rubbish bins. Thanks.
