I first went to the Abbey in 1981, peering over the fence at the front of the Habbin and watching a 3-2 home defeat to Bolton Wanderers (Steve Fallon was sent off). Since then Cambridge United have been a constant feature of my life, keeping me in touch with friends and family whether I've been home or away. In the last 20 years I've lived in Chesterton, Sheffield, Romsey Town, Barcelona, Kings Hedges and Guatemala, and now I'm back home in Chesterton and back home in the Habbin.
I've seen some great times at United (David Crown's winner against Ipswich, the Dartford tunnel after the playoff semi victory at Maidstone 1990, Greg Reid's mad race with the opposition physio when he accidentally smacked the referee and many many more) and some desperate times (the deafening silence when we lost our league place in 2005 stands out). It's been a rollercoaster ride, but I wouldnt want it any other way.
I joined CFU years ago because I think that Cambridge United is bigger than the players and bigger than the directors. It's us, whether we go up the Abbey every Saturday, travel away or follow results from afar, and the ownership of the club and decision-making processes should reflect us and our views. CFU has achieved great things since 2000, and played a crucial part in the survival of the club. So it was a great honour to be invited to join the Trust Board in summer 2010 and I'm looking forward to helping CFU in any way I can.
