The Cambridge Community Stadium A New Home for the U's
The Abbey Stadium will always have a special place in every Cambridge United supporter’s heart.
It is a place of memories. Everyone will have their own special one. It may be a Dion Dublin goal or a Lionel Perez save. Some memories will be special for other reasons and some will be very personal. Whichever one it is, it will always be special.
However, when the decision to sell the ground several years ago was made, it was the end of any long term future at the Newmarket Road site. The club at that point was unable to any longer ensure its future at the ground we all love.
In March 2011, Grosvenor bought the ground from the previous landlords and became our new land lords. CFU believe we should work with going forwards with Grosvenor in their attempts to move the ground situation forwards positively. We were invited by Grosvenor to work with them alongside the club board and the Supporters Club. We also signed the initial Memarandum Of Understanding between all parties. We take this responsibility seriously and before signing anything took advice.
We have met with Grosvenor and raised concerns with them at several times privately and publically. During this period CFU have organised
Public meeting with Grosvenor to allow supporters and local residents to ask questions
Attended private meetings along with other stakeholders
Organised a survey asking supporters for their views
Encouraged the City Council to come on board
We have tried to represent supporters and give everyone the opportunity to ask questions, and we will not stop doing so. We may eventually move or remain at the Abbey Stadium, however, whatever happens we will ensure you are kept informed of progress and ask if you want be involved.
If you would like to help support CFU with the ground re-development and you have the skills needed please contact us.
