_Cambridge United Seek Budding Football Commentators For Premier League Service

Are you a budding  football commentator wanting to develop your skills? 

Cambridge United are looking for volunteers to commentate on their own audio description service for the visually impaired.

The Soccer sight project was originally started by the RNIB to provide an audio description service to visually impaired football fans. Teams including Arsenal and Norwich currently provide this service. Using short wave radio signals to transmit the commentary to fans wherever they are sitting in the stadium it allows fans to enjoy the game in the same location and at the same pace as their friends.
The Soccor Sight Project was run by the RNIB for a number of years but the funding ran out in 2009.  The service was so popular that all clubs involved have now taken ownership of the project and it runs itself very effectively.  The project setup by CFU is being undertaken through the donation of the equipment and is looking for several volunteers to be trained in the skills of descriptive commentary and in using the equipment.

Volunteers would not be expected to cover every home game but on a rota system. Volunteers are given free entry for the games they  commentate on as well as provide a unique service to help others enjoy football at the R Costings Abbey Stadium and bring back fans who may not have been able to enjoy games before.

Initail training was led by Phil Pethybridge who currently provides these services as part of a team at Ipswich Town.  Previously Phil has provided descriptive commentary at the World Blind Football Championships 2010. Huge thanks go to Phil for helping CFU out on this project.
