Cambridge Fans United was established with three aims:
- To help the Club
- To help the Community
- To help the fans
A group of U's fans worked with the Football Foundation (previously the Football Trust)
and the Government-sponsored Supporters Direct group to create a fans' co-operative.
In legal terms Cambridge Fans United is an Industrial and Provident Society (like the
Co-op). It has been created and will be run by the fans, for the fans. Its legally binding
rules ensure that it is fully democratic and non profit-making. Please see the Legal
and Financial Conditions page for further details of the Society's structure.
Committee members receive no pay. Members are registered as the owner of a single share
on joining but shareholders receive no dividends. All funds raised are put to good use
supporting Cambridge United and the community (less a small amount for running costs).
To join there is a membership subscription which is a minimum of £20 per year. Of
course we would be very happy if you paid more. This will entitle you to membership of
Cambrige Fans United, the right to vote at any meetings and to stand for and elect the
Executive Committee and any Fans' Director on the Board at Cambridge United.
Anyone over the age of 16 can be a member. Legally, under 16s are not allowed as members
of members of our sort of society, so we have created Young Cambridge Fans United
for anyone too young to join CFU. For £5 a year you receive all the benefits and rights
of a full Cambridge Fans United member, except you are not registered as a shareholder of the
society and cannot vote at its meetings. However, you still receive the same newsletters,
event invitations and society benefits as other members.
Cambridge United belongs to all of us. Together we can really make a difference.
